(From the back cover): Curt Thompson is an avid outdoorsman, traveler,
photographer, packer, and self proclaimed River Rat. Curt used his
advanced degree in recreation and biology to teach school and coach for a
period of 12 years, however his undying desire for the outdoors and
specifically Montana Rivers resulted in this book. The author searched for
accurate information on various rivers prior to his float trips and found
that in most cases information was not available. So after 30 years of
floating Montana Rivers, Curt took time out, two and one half years to be
exact, to research, and record the date that will greatly aid those who
use Montana Rivers for any purpose. Curt has floated all 68 floatable
rivers in Montana and explored the non-floatable rivers on foot,
horseback, or by trail bike. His experience and research on Montana Rivers
is a valuable tool for anyone using the river be it the rafter, whitewater
enthusiast, fisherman, geologist, rockhound, or search and rescue mission.
He has recorded and documented river floats in all 12 months of the year,
logging 1000 miles per year, in every weather condition imaginable. Water
craft used varies from the smallest of rafts to canoes, kayaks, and boats
of all sizes and descriptions. Every float trip has been witnessed,
however many, such as his two tirps through Meadow Creek Gorge in the
South Fork of the Flathead River have been solo due to the dangerous
conditions offered by the challenge.
