Geography: Townsend rests south of Ferry Lake, nestled between the Elkhorn Mountains to the west, and the Big Belt Mountains to the east.  The Missouri River flows just west of town.

Transportation: Townsend is located along Hwy 287 at the junction of Hwy 12.  Three Forks, MT is approximately 30 miles south located at the Junction of Interstate 90 and Hwy 287.  Helena has the closest airport approximately 37 miles northwest of Townsend.

Weather:  Average high temperature in the summer ranges from 74° in June, 83° in July, and 82° in August, with average lows in the high 40s and low 50s.  June usually has the most rainfall with an average of 2.1 inches. The average high temperature in the winter ranges from 35° in December, 33° in January, and 39° in February, with average lows in the upper teens. The average snowfall in December and January is 5 inches.
