Geography: Nearly completely surrounded by the Bitterroot National Forest in Sapphire Mountain Range to the east and the Bitterroot Mountain Range to the west.  Darby is surrounded by many rivers including the Bitterroot River, the Salmon, Big Hole, Blackfoot, and Clark Fork Rivers.

Transportation: Located on Hwy 93 at the southern end of the Bitterroot Valley. The community reaches to the Idaho Border.   Missoula is just 63 miles to the north where Missoula International Airport is located.

Weather: Average high temperature in the summer ranges from 75° in June, 84° in July, and 83° in August, with average lows in the mid 40s. June usually has the most rainfall with an average of 2 inches. The average high temperature in the winter ranges from 37° in December, 35° in January, and 42° in February, with average lows in the high teens. The average snowfall per month in December and January is 8 inches.
