Deerlodge National Forest and Beaverhead National Forest,
Philipsburg is bounded on all sides by mountains. To the
west are the Sapphire Mountains, to the east lie the Flint
Creek Range, and the Pintler Range to the south. Flint Creek
bounds Philipsburg on the west. Rock Creek is 15 miles
west of town, and the Big Hole River is 40 miles south of
town. Georgetown Lake is approximately 12 miles south
on Hwy 1 toward Anaconda.
Transportation: Philipsburg is located on Montana Hwy 1, also
known as the Pintler Scenic Loop, 30 miles south of Drummond and about 30
miles north of Anaconda. Missoula, 78 miles north, and Butte, 52
miles southeast, both have International Airports.
Weather: Average high temperature in the summer ranges from 70°
in June, 80° in July, and 80° in August, with average lows in the upper
30s and low 40s. June usually has the most rainfall with an average
of 2.8 inches. The average high temperature in the winter ranges from 34°
in December, 31° in January, and 35° in February, with average lows in the
low teens. The average snowfall per month in December and January is 9
inches.
